The company behind the box

20 years of battery engineering, headquartered in Shenzhen — and answering the phone from Sydney.

Founded in 2004, ESY SUNHOME built its reputation supplying Battery Management Systems to Huawei, Samsung, Dell, and Toshiba. The HM5/6 series — launched in 2023 — is the first time that decade-plus of cell-level monitoring expertise has been packaged for Australian homes.

International offices in Germany, Italy, and Sydney mean warranty support isn't an afterthought routed through three time zones. When something needs attention, an Australian team picks up.

Two ranges. Same five-layer safety. Different jobs.

Most home battery brands ship one product and let installers stretch it to fit. ESY ships two — a focused single-phase platform for typical homes, and a three-phase platform for everything bigger. You're paired with the right one, not the only one.

01

HM5/6 Series

Single phase, modular, retrofit-friendly

5.12 → 30.72 kWh
Stack-ready capacity range
HM5/6 Series battery
  • Module 5.12 kWh
  • Inverter 5 kW / 6 kW
  • Phase Single
  • Stacks Up to 6

Best for Most Melbourne homes — 3 to 5 bedrooms with daytime solar and evening peak draw.

  • AC coupled — retrofits to existing solar without replacing the inverter
  • Stack one module today, add more next year — no replacement, no rework
  • Integrated 5 kW or 6 kW hybrid inverter (one wall-box, one warranty)
  • Back-up circuit shipped in the box, wired and tested on installation day
02

HM20 Series

Three phase, scale to small commercial

10 → 90 kWh
Stack-ready capacity range
HM20 Series battery
  • Module 10 kWh
  • Inverter 20 kW
  • Phase Three
  • PV Input Up to 40 kW

Best for Larger homes, heavy EV charging, or three-phase sites that need 20 kW+ of inverter capacity.

  • Three-phase 20 kW hybrid inverter integrated — pairs with up to 40 kW of PV
  • Stack 10 kWh modules to 90 kWh — homes, small commercial, off-grid hybrids
  • 22 A backup current per phase keeps the whole house running, not just a sub-panel
  • Same five-layer safety stack and IP66 rating as the single-phase range
The five-layer safety stack

Five independent layers. Designed to fail safe, not fail silent.

Cheap batteries have one safety system. If it fails, you find out the hard way. ESY runs five — each layer designed to catch a different failure mode and to operate even if the layers around it stop working.

  1. Advanced BMS

Cell-level monitoring borrowed from the same Battery Management System tech ESY ships to Huawei, Samsung, Dell, and Toshiba. Voltage, temperature, and current watched 24/7.

  2. System lock

Hardware-level isolation on every module. If anything reads out of bounds, the module disconnects itself before propagating a fault to the rest of the stack.

  3. Secondary protection circuit

Independent of the BMS — a fail-safe layer that intervenes if the primary monitoring loop ever drops out. Defence in depth, not single-point.

  4. Overcurrent fuse

Physical fuse on the DC bus. Last-line protection against any short or runaway current path the electronics can't cut fast enough.

  5. Fire suppressant gel

Built into the module pack itself — passive, non-electric, and active even if power to the BMS is lost. Critical for outdoor-mounted batteries.

Federal STC Battery Rebate

Around 30% off your ESY install — applied at quote, not at year end.

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program (STC) has been live since 1 July 2025. The ESY SunHome is on the approved equipment list, so the discount lands directly on your quote — no rebate paperwork on your end. The incentive steps down annually to 2030.

Our installation

What an ESY install actually looks like with us.

  1. 01

    Bills + site review

We pull 12 months of your usage data and check your switchboard, existing inverter, and grid connection before quoting.

  2. 02

    Right-sized module count

We size the stack to your actual evening load — not a generic 10 kWh recommendation. You only pay for capacity you'll use.

  3. 03

    One-day install

Licensed in-house electricians. AS/NZS 5139 compliant. We commission the backup circuit and prove it works before we pack up.

  4. 04

    App + handover

ESY SUNHOME app set up on your phone. We walk you through monitoring, modes, and what to expect on your next bill.

Common questions

ESY SunHome — answered honestly.

Can I add the ESY SunHome to my existing solar system?
Yes. The HM5/6 series supports AC coupling, so it can be retrofitted to an existing solar system without replacing your current inverter. We assess compatibility at the time of your quote.
How much capacity do I actually need?
A single 5.12 kWh module covers roughly 2–3 hours of typical evening household load. Most Melbourne families opt for two or three modules (10–15 kWh) to shift a meaningful portion of their daily solar generation to the evening — we size it on 12 months of your real usage data.
Will the ESY SunHome keep my power on during a blackout?
Yes — the HM5/6 includes a built-in back-up circuit and the HM20 delivers 22 A per phase. We configure which loads are backed up during installation. If whole-home backup is a priority, tell us at quote stage and we'll design accordingly.
Is the ESY SunHome eligible for the federal STC battery rebate?
Yes — the ESY range is approved under the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program (STC), live since 1 July 2025. The discount is around 30% of the upfront cost on eligible installs, applied straight to your quote. We handle the paperwork. The incentive steps down each year through to 2030.
What's the difference between HM5/6 and HM20?
HM5/6 is single phase with a 5 or 6 kW integrated inverter, stacking from 5 to 30 kWh — right for most homes. HM20 is three phase with a 20 kW inverter, stacking from 10 to 90 kWh — sized for large homes, three-phase sites, heavy EV charging, or small commercial. We'll recommend the right one once we see your meter and bills.
How long does installation take?
A standard ESY SunHome installation takes one day. We handle all grid notification paperwork, commissioning, and the ESY SUNHOME app setup before we leave.
